What is Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of people through force, fraud or coercion, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Men, women and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world. Traffickers prey on vulnerable individuals. Human trafficking is simply the exploitation of people for profit.

Where does Human Trafficking happen?

Human Trafficking happens EVERYWHERE! It is estimated that approximately 400,000 people are trafficked in the United States, and that sex trafficking in the Western world yields profits of over $80,000 per person. After drug trafficking, it is the second largest illegal activity. Despite its size and impact, less than 2% of giving to women's and girls' causes in the United States is devoted to the cause of trafficking.

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is recognized each year on January 11th. Blue Campaign’s largest initiative is #WearBlueDay on January 11th. To raise awareness of human trafficking, we invite the public to take photos of themselves, friends, family, and colleagues wearing blue clothing and share them on social media – Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – along with our #WearBlueDay hashtag. Anyone can participate, all you need is a piece of blue clothing!

At Cycling for Change (c4c), mission is to raise funds and awareness to address issues relating to human trafficking and to empower survivors by amplifying their voices through collaboration. We are dedicated to leveraging our passion for cycling and various activities to break the cycle of human trafficking and provide hope to those who are marginalized and vulnerable in society.

The Blue Heart Campaign against Human Trafficking works to raise awareness of the plight of victims and to build political support to fight the criminals behind trafficking. The Blue Heart Campaign, supported by several countries all over the world, seeks to encourage involvement and inspire action to combat human trafficking.

The Blue Heart represents the sadness of those who are trafficked while reminding us of the cold-heartedness of those who buy and sell fellow human beings. The use of the blue UN color also demonstrates the commitment of the United Nations to combating this crime against human dignity. In the same way that the red ribbon has become the international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness, this campaign aims to make the Blue Heart into an international symbol against human trafficking. By “wearing” the Blue Heart, you will raise awareness of human trafficking, increase the visibility of victims and join the campaign to fight this crime.
